How long do I have to get a refund?

There’s no rule on how long you have to make a return, but it could be up to 90 days for most items.  That said, Walmart keeps a special category of electronics under open-box electronics, which typically come with a 15-day return period.  Other general rules to keep in mind include that clothing and shoes need to be unworn and unopened; furniture has a 30-day window, and health products must still be sealed in their original packaging.

Will I get in trouble if I don’t have a receipt?

The short answer is no. You’re not legally required to bring a receipt to make a return.  Even so, many retailers require receipts or other proof of purchase—like an original credit card statement or an itemized bank statement—in order to process returns and exchanges.  Even if you don’t need a receipt, it’s always best to ask your retailer’s return policy before you start shopping, since they may want proof that you purchased an item within their store (e. g. , show them your confirmation email from online shopping) in order for them to honor your return/exchange request.

What about damaged electronics?

If your TV arrives broken or if your computer doesn’t turn on, that’s a manufacturer or shipping problem. Call Walmart and request a replacement.  You’ll usually have to ship back your original item, though sometimes you can make arrangements for them to send a pickup team to pick it up instead.  When you make contact with Walmart’s customer service department, they will give you an RMA (return merchandise authorization) number that is used to track replacements in their system. Once you have that number, contact FedEx and have them pick up your original item when it arrives at its destination – then arrange for Walmart to send out your replacement TV or computer right away. Be sure to keep all packing materials so you can use them again for shipping back your damaged device.  It might take some time before Walmart replaces your item, but don’t let that discourage you from taking action immediately after learning about any damage or defects upon receiving your new electronics purchase.  Also remember that it’s not always possible to get everything replaced; I once had a defective camera returned to me by Walmart and was only able to receive a refund because there was no more stock available of my exact model.  This is rare, however; if Walmart has another model of what you want in stock they will likely replace it without issue!

If you made your purchase using a Walmart gift card, debit card or credit card, you can cancel your order at any time by calling 1-800-966-6546.  You’ll need to have your 10-digit Order Number and it’s helpful if you know your 16-digit Walmart Order ID (found on your confirmation email).  Canceling orders purchased with cash is difficult because, well, it was cash. If you paid for your order in person at a store location, go back to that store location as soon as possible—the sooner you tell them about wanting to cancel an order that was paid for in cash, the more likely they will be able to refund you.
