WD My Cloud video Server is a physical cloud storage device when connected to your router gives  you access to all your electronic goods like mobile phones, PCs, tablets, and so on through the  internet. Simply put, it’s a device that you buy once rather than paying monthly charges to the cloud  services, and can be used as you wish.

It serves the purpose of your single-centered personal cloud space. This is NAS(Network  Attached Storage) device allowing you to save, organize, have backups, and share files via your  internet. The data or files stored in this WD My Cloud Video server can be used and accessed wirelessly  anywhere through the internet.

How Do You Setup?

Setting WD My Cloud Server is simple. ‘Just connect this to your home router with an ethernet  cable’. Then download and set-up an installation package on each device you want to use. Once installed  and configured, you will be able to store photos, videos, movies, documents, and many more.

The server consists of three public sharing folders called

Public

Smartware

Time-machine backup

After connecting, these folders can be accessed onto your PCs, mobiles, and your other devices, using  the MyCloud app through the internet.

How Do You Access It On Mobile?

  1. Download the MyCloud mobile app.

  2. Your mobile identifies your MyCloud and make sure you are initially on the same network  while you are setting this up.

  3. Done. It’s as simple as that.

How To Access When You Aren’t On Same Local Network or When Abroad?

Your mobile still will be connected to the MyCloud NAS server through the internet, though you  aren’t on your home network, which means no extra set-up is required to access your home network.

Where Do Files Get Stored?

As mentioned before, the server consists of three folders. Here you can store your files and data  into this. You can also manage and organize the type of files you like to share throughout your devices.

The settings which you would like to change like, username, the password can be done in the  Users configuration screen.

Basically, this MyCloud can also work as your remote computer or an application on any of your devices  through the MyCloud account across the internet.

Storage and Access Of Files

The exciting thing is, that you can backup your photos, videos, multi-media files, social media  files(along with comments and tags included), and your memorabilia. Once you have stored the data,  you can access or use it through the MyCloud app or your browser.

A separate storage/ content area can be created for each of your family members. The files or  the data stored on the cloud can also be shared with friends and family via sharing apps or emails and  messaging.

• So as to be device-friendly, the Mycloud adjusts the video or photo resolution itself depending  on the device which you are viewing or accessing your files. Well, this seems to be interesting.

• Guests or friends can have limited access to your data.

• As this is a hard drive connected to your home network, it is said to be safe compared to storing  your data on virtual clouds.

• Safepoints: These are like replicas of your drive/ folders of your files, which can be stored on  other devices/ drives attached to your MyCloud home network. The only shortcoming of these  safepoints is, that the redundancy of your data can not be maintained when your original and  backup recovery devices are at the same location during a disaster.

Points To Be Noted:

 1. You need to keep your internet speed high.

 2. This MyCloud can be used when you have all smart devices.

 3. Downloads automatically go to the MyCloud drive.
